“Be proud of who you are”

If you’re a young person who’s looking to get training in the work place then we can help you. We offer a range of training programmes which are all delivered in our professional workshops by people who are experienced in their trades.

We support you to get the right skills so that when you leave us you’re ready to go onto college, gain an apprenticeship or get yourself a job.

We understand how tough it can be for young people to learn new skills and find work so we work hard alongside you to make sure that you get the best chance. Follow our links at the top of this page to learn more about us and what we can offer you.

“Find your strengths”

About Us

Veloheads opened as a bike repair business in 2014. From day one we offered supported work placements to students from local schools. Because lots of students enjoyed coming to work with us, and because we enjoyed working with them, we decided in 2016 to dedicate ourselves to providing courses which would get our trainees ready for work or college.

We understand that some people feel more comfortable learning in the work place and enjoy learning skills which are more practical than they might get to do in school. So our courses aim to get you ready for learning a trade either as an apprentice or at college.

What people say
“Get respect”

It’s really important for us to get our project right so that it works for our trainees. These are some of the things that they’ve said so far…

It’s helped me learn skills and get social confidence with people. When I was a bit younger I tended to have some anger issues and this helped me calm down and relax and working on bikes takes the stress away

I have to have good behavior at school to come here. If I mess around at school I can’t come so it motivates me more to behave at school and get on with my work

I have learnt so much since I started at Veloheads. I had some background knowledge before I started but I have learnt all the fine details and how to fix them safely and properly. I enjoy being here and I always look forward to coming down. Being here has taught me so much and I am confident with performing bike maintenance at home with the skills I have learnt at Veloheads

I think it’s great and it’s a good way for people to learn things and it’s helped me clear my head and do activities I wouldn’t normally be able to do. And helped calm me down

Training Programme

We make sure that we get to know all of our trainees which means that we can deliver the right programme at the right level for you. Our workshop is a great place to learn about what skills you need to work in any workplace but particularly if you want to work in mechanics, engineering or with resistant materials. Just as important though is understanding how to make money from your skills so we’ll give you a solid background in enterprise skills.

We never work with a group of more than 4 trainees at one time so there is always someone to give you more support if you need it. And if you need help with functional maths and English we can give you that too.

Last year 95% of the trainees left us and went onto either college or work based learning.

See above if you want to see what some of our trainees have said about their time with us.

Passport to Work

We want all of our trainees to leave us being able to show people what they have achieved with us and what they are capable of. Our Passport to Work provides you with a portfolio that records all of your achievements with us.

As you work through our programmes you’ll record photographic evidence from a variety of tasks that you’ll carry out, whether it’s servicing a bike, soldering copper pipe work, working on joinery projects or even risk assessing our work shops. You then end up with your own portfolio to take away so that when people ask what you can do, you can show them.

Bike Library

“Be part of our team”

Veloheads are proud to host the area’s bike library. This is an innovative project funded by Welcome to Yorkshire and through our partnership with Harrogate Town Football Club.

Our trainees maintain and manage a fleet of bikes which are free for use by local residents. We have a range of adult and children’s bikes for use and we also provide users with helmets and hi-viz clothing.

Please click here for the library’s terms and conditions.

Please visit out website (www.veloheads.academy) or ring for the library’s terms and conditions.

Phone us on 01423 886355 to make an appointment to visit the library.

"Help build the future for young people”

Volunteering

Veloheads is a not for profit organization; any profit that we make is ploughed back into the business to support investment in improving the facilities, training and opportunities that our trainees benefit from.

We are always looking to improve and a big part of service is driven by the volunteers who work with us and bring a wealth of experience and insight. We work in a challenging but rewarding environment so if you think that you have a skill that can help young people build their future, then please get in touch
